We summarize the results of the spring-summer Olympiads among junior students.
On April 27, the II Interuniversity Student Olympiad in Anatomy and Physiology was held. It was attended by students of the medical and pediatric faculties of NSMU, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology of the Novosibirsk Agrarian University and the Institute of Medicine and Psychology of V. Zelman of the Novosibirsk State University.
The first stage – “Anatomy” – included 30 interesting questions from the field of anatomy, a test and a crossword puzzle on various anatomical topics. The anatomical module ended with a demonstration of theoretical knowledge in practice: it was necessary to show various structures on preparations, as well as indicate the Latin name and eponym associated with this structure. The second stage – “Normal physiology” – is practical. Participants had to demonstrate their knowledge of the functioning of the human body, go through a text and solve a crossword puzzle. The stage ended with the determination of blood groups.
According to the results of the Olympiad, the team of the Faculty of Medicine of NSMU VINCENTES became the best. Second place was shared by the teams of the pediatric faculty of our university “Pirogov’s Children” and “Hysteresis” from NSU. Honorary bronze went to the guys Veterinarius (NSAU) and “Goosebumps” (NSU).

On May 4, the A priori Medical Olympiad among junior students was held at the Novosibirsk State University. Novosibirsk Medical University submitted five teams to the competition, the host team was four and one was the Novosibirsk Agrarian University.
The written stage of the Olympiad was held separately for teams and their captains. Participants solved ten problems, including several questions from the sections of anatomy, histology and normal physiology. The next stage is a quiz in the test format with open answers: five modules of ten questions each in the same sections as the first part of the competition.
The team of our university VINCENTENS (Karina Khromova, Andrey Demidenko, Alisa Zavalishina, Maxim Peretinsky, Nikolai Sapunov and Amir Safarov) won the Olympiad. The second place was “Quiet Cells”, the third place was “MMF” (both NSU teams). In the individual competition, the results are as follows: among the captains the best was Karina Khromova (VINCENTES), in the quiz the best were students of the Faculty of Dentistry Ilya Skirnevsky (member of the Dentarium team) and Egor Shemetov (member of the Dentosaurs team). In the written stage, the VINCENTES team also became the leader.
From May 12 to 20, a team from NSMU consisting of Alisa Zavalishina, Karina Khromova, Andrey Demidenko and Nikolai Sapunov, accompanied by the head of the Department of Human Anatomy. acad. Yu.I. Borodin Pavel Aleksandrovich Yelyasin visited the capital of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek.
On May 14, the International School of Medicine of the academic consortium “International University of Kyrgyzstan” hosted the III International Olympiad in Anatomy, Histology and Operative Surgery among students studying in English. Our guys competed with teams from seven medical universities and faculties of Kyrgyzstan. Theoretical knowledge was tested on the basis of one of the interactive educational platforms. The practical part involved working on the interactive anatomical table “Pirogov”, describing histological preparations and practicing surgical skills. As a result of intense competition, the team of the Novosibirsk State Medical University won the Grand Prix. The first place deservedly went to Ala-Too International University. Second place went to the team of the International School of Medicine of the academic consortium “International University of Kyrgyzstan”. In third place is the team of the International Higher School of Medicine.
On May 15, on the basis of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B.N. Yeltsin hosted the XXI international scientific and practical conference “Youth scientific creativity - an effective way to train medical and biological personnel.” Alisa Zavalishina received a diploma as a participant in the conference, and Karina Khromova and teacher of the Department of Human Anatomy Anna Nikolaevna Vorobyova received a 1st degree diploma in the section “Fundamental and Applied Morphology”.
On May 16, the III International Student Olympiad in Morphology and Practical Skills took place, in which ten teams from medical universities and faculties of the CIS countries took part. The competition program included testing of theory and an extensive practical stage, during which participants had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in solving anatomical problems, working on the interactive “Pirogov” table, and describing histological preparations and structures. In addition, students were asked to provide first aid to the “victim.” The NSMU team's scorecard includes first place for theory and practice in anatomy and histology, as well as bronze for first aid.
On May 31, NSMU held the II Interuniversity Student Olympiad in Anatomy and Histology among students of the Faculty of Dentistry, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of academician Yuri Ivanovich Borodin. The best team was the “Morphological Five” (Ilya Skirnevsky, Anna Kulikova, Polina Shilgalis, Ruslan Bobomulloev and Alexander Martirosyan). T-winners (Konstantin Kusurgashev, Daria Dovgal, Andrey Anosov, Dmitry Alekseev and Norbu Khomushku) took silver. “Anatomical Alliance” took the third step of the podium (Alexandra Evstropova, Ekaterina Tsevkolyuk, Dmitry Kuzmichev, Alina Fedorova and Sayyn Ondar).
The team of our university came out ahead by a large margin and won the first stage of the International Anatomy Olympiad for foreign students in English. The first round of the Olympiad took place on May 28. 20 teams from Russian medical universities (Barnaul, Vladivostok, Izhevsk, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Moscow, Samara, St. Petersburg, Tula, and Cheboksary) and foreign (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tanzania) participated.
As part of the “Virtual Preparation” competition, students made a video describing the topography of the scapular region using the anatomical 3D atlas “Pirogov”. The second competition, called “Own Game,” was held online. Participants answered questions via video conference by naming the corresponding anatomical structure presented in a 3D atlas. At this stage, our team scored the highest points among all universities - 370!
Novosibirsk Medical University was represented by students of the Faculty of Medicine: Hasan Sagir (captain, 2nd year, Lebanon), Hevor Keila (2nd year, Ghana), Ainagozel Ataeva, 1st year, Turkmenistan) and Mooka Mubiana (2nd year, Zambia). In total they scored 590 points. The Kuban Medical University team has 505 points and second place. The top three are completed by students of the Faculty of Medicine of the Baltic Federal University. I. Kant, they have 380 points.
The finals of the Olympiad with full-time participation will be held in October this year at the Kuban Medical University. The magnificent four foreigners of NSMU under the leadership of their curator - the head of the Department of Human Anatomy named after. acad. Yu.I. Borodin Pavel Aleksandrovich Yelyasin - has already begun preparations. We wish the guys good luck!
And the series of Olympiads ends with the IV Regional Student Olympiad on the history of anatomy and anatomical terminology among first-year students, which took place on the first day of summer. The Olympiad was attended by students of the medical, pediatric, and dental faculties of NSMU, as well as four teams from NSAU. The final table looks like this: first place – Habemus memorium malam with a score of 24.75 (NSMU), “Ligamentics” and 23.5 points (NSMU) and lorem ipsum and 21.25 points (NSAU); second place – “ECG” and 22.5 points (NSMU), “Anatomical winners” and 22.25 points (NSMU) and Aurorae and 14 points (NSAU); third place – “Comrade students” and 19.75 points (NSMU), “Merry again” and 19.75 points (NSMU) and Sapienti sat and 12.5 points (NSAU). The rector of the university, Professor Igor Olegovich Marinkin, was awarded the honorary award “To Our Teacher,” which is awarded annually to representatives of the medical community as part of the regional professional competition “Doctor of the Year.”
The final of the regional competition “Doctor of the Year – 2024” was held on June 5. The award was presented to the rector by the Deputy Minister of Health of the Novosibirsk Region, Elena Anatolyevna Aksenova. Igor Olegovich thanked the medical community for recognizing his services. He noted that he has had a relationship with Novosibirsk Medical University for more than forty years.
I.O. Marinkin entered the Novosibirsk Medical Institute in 1978. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, he continued his residency training at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, followed by postgraduate studies. In 1989, he was admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where he worked his way up from assistant to head of the department. He always combined his work at the university with his medical practice. From 1996 to the present, Professor Marinkin has headed the obstetrics and gynecology clinic of the State Novosibirsk Regional Clinical Hospital (GNOKB); for ten years he was deputy chief physician for obstetrics and gynecology. From 2001 to 2006, he headed the regional perinatal center; during this period in the Novosibirsk region, maternal mortality decreased by three times, perinatal mortality by almost two.
For many years, Professor Marinkin has been the scientific director of the clinic of obstetrics and gynecology at the Avicenna Medical Center and a leading researcher at the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine of the SB RAS. Every year, Igor Olegovich operates and delivers from 120 to 150 complex gynecological patients and high-risk pregnant women, and takes a personal part in providing assistance to seriously obstetric patients in city clinics. Directly at the operating table, he teaches surgical techniques to clinical residents and doctors. Hundreds of obstetricians and gynecologists took his master classes not only in Russia, but also in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. In 2022, NSMU became the first medical university in the country, whose employees, headed by the rector, went to the Lugansk People's Republic: they conducted master classes on operative gynecology and obstetrics, on the management of patients with traumatic brain, ophthalmological and abdominal injuries; provided medical assistance to the wounded in a front-line hospital.
Professor I.O. Marinkin – Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation. Under his leadership, 21 candidates and five doctors of medical sciences defended their defenses, most of them practicing specialists. He is the author of 477 scientific publications, including ten monographs. He has headed the university since 2008, calls the university a complex, multifaceted organization with a team of very different people who solve completely different problems, and calls his work as a leader obedience. This summer, Igor Olegovich, together with his fellow students, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of graduating from the Novosibirsk Medical Institute.
And the doctor of the year was Igor Anatolyevich Druzhinin, an anesthesiologist-resuscitator, head of the remote resuscitation and consultation center for children of the department of planned and emergency advisory care of the regional clinical hospital. The audience gave their sympathies to Elena Vladimirovna Shidlovskaya, a surgeon, head of the department of purulent surgery at City Clinical Hospital No. 1.
The honorary award “For Loyalty to the Profession” was presented to Gennady Fedorovich Konachkov, an endoscopist at the Karasuk Central District Hospital. Gennady Fedorovich has been in the profession for 57 years! In the category “Youth. Innovation. Talent” was won by Andrey Sergeevich Chumakov, an anesthesiologist and resuscitator, head of the department of resuscitation and intensive care of purulent surgery at the regional clinical hospital.
Doctors from City Clinical Hospital No. 1 were awarded in the category “For conducting a unique operation that saved a person’s life.” Neurosurgeons Leonid Evgenievich Kuchuk and Anton Petrovich Ponomarenko, thoracic surgeon Ragif Musavi ogly Dzhumshudov, ophthalmologist Tatyana Viktorovna Kashitsina, anesthesiologist-resuscitator Alena Viktorovna Eletskaya, radiologist Olga Aleksandrovna Sergeeva, head of the department of anesthesiology fought for the patient’s life and intensive care unit No. 2 Roman Aleksandrovich Velkin and deputy chief physician for medical affairs Elena Vasilievna Domracheva.
In the special category “Non-medical specialty” the award was presented to the medical psychologist of the Novosibirsk Regional Clinical Narcological Dispensary, Dina Dmitrievna Iksanova.
